Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) Funding

May 6, 2026

The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is pleased to share that the Government of Ontario is investing more than $1.6 million through the MHIP-HSWS for infrastructure improvements on Sixth Street. The MHIP-HSWS will help municipalities and First Nations build, expand or rehabilitate aging water, wastewater, stormwater, flood and erosion infrastructure. These projects will help preserve the current housing supply and protect communities during extreme weather events.

Infrastructure improvements on Sixth Street will include a new watermain and upgrades to the sanitary sewer, representing an important investment in local infrastructure and future growth. More information will be shared as the project moves forward.

“As we continue to navigate economic uncertainty, our government is protecting Ontario by investing in critical infrastructure that drives growth, creates jobs and strengthens communities. Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving municipalities and First Nations the tools they need to get shovels in the ground and build stronger communities. Our investments will deliver more homes, modernize aging water systems and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity across Ontario.”

  • Todd McCarthy, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure

“On behalf of Council and the community, we are grateful to the Province of Ontario for this important investment through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program. Upgrades to Sixth Street will strengthen essential services, support future growth, and help ensure our infrastructure remains safe and reliable for residents. This funding is a significant step forward in building a resilient and sustainable community.”
