The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is seeking motivated, dependable, result orientated individuals to join our team this summer! The ideal candidates must be team orientated with a high level of community pride to ensure municipal services are delivered to the standards the community has come to expect. This work opportunity will provide the successful candidates with a meaningful work experience serving our growing community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The General Labourer in Public Works Department will be a summer employee that assist the regular Public Works employees with summer projects and maintenance around the municipality including roads, parks, landscaping, cemetery, facilities maintenance, and any other duties assigned.
The work associated with this position will be done indoors and outdoors, sometimes working in the heat and may require standing or sitting for extended periods of time as well as some lifting. Employees shall be entitled to a fifteen (15) minute paid rest period in the morning and a half hour (0.5) paid lunch break.
Tools and Equipment Used
The position will require the worker to use such tools as landscaping equipment including riding lawn tractors, brush cutting equipment and string trimmers.

Any personal information collected from the public is considered confidential and is not to be released to other members of the public.
Employees are responsible for supplying their own clothes. Such clothing shall be of a respectable nature and appropriate for the kind of work being carried out. CSA approved safety footwear must be worn at all times along with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the work being performed.
The general public must be treated in a courteous manner. Should residents approach employees about issues that may be related or unrelated to their specific job they should be directed to supervisory staff. Inquiries and concerns from the public and other staff must be dealt with immediately to the best ability of the employee. Profane language and offensive behavior is prohibited at all times. No Smoking in any Town facility, vehicles, or equipment.
Absenteeism and Lateness
Employees unable to report for work or knowing in advance that they will be late work, must notify their Supervisor before the start of their shift. Failure to notify the immediate Supervisor of impending lateness may result in a deduction of pay. Any employee late three or more times without just cause will be sent home without pay. If this continues the employee will be disciplined accordingly, which may include dismissal.
Previous experience is an asset.
