FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Town of Smooth Rock Falls Moves Forward with Attainable Community Housing Project
Smooth Rock Falls, ON – October 21, 2025 – The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is pleased to announce a significant step forward in its efforts to expand affordable housing options within the community.
On May 27, 2025, the Town issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI), inviting qualified private and non-profit organizations to submit proposals for affordable rental housing developments, with a particular focus on senior housing. The EOI welcomed both shovel-ready and conceptual proposals aimed at meeting the evolving housing needs of the community, especially for its aging population.
The EOI closed on July 16, 2025, with three proposals received. Following a thorough review process in collaboration with the Smooth Rock Falls Seniors Housing Committee, the Committee provided its recommendation to Council in September 2025.
At the Special Council Meeting held on October 7, 2025, Council passed a motion authorizing administration to proceed and sign a Letter of Engagement with Descon Construction Inc. for the Attainable Community Housing Project.
“This decision represents an important milestone for the Town as we work to address housing needs and provide new, affordable, senior-oriented living options for our residents,” said Patrick Roberts, Mayor of Smooth Rock Falls.
A public meeting will be held in November 2025 to gather input from residents, share details about the proposed development, and outline the Town’s goal of having the project shovel-ready by the end of 2026. Residents are encouraged to participate and provide feedback as the Town continues to advance this important initiative.
