Job Description

The Town of Smooth Rock Falls is seeking a qualified, highly skilled and devoted senior management team member to provide the full-time services of Municipal Clerk

Reporting to the CAO/Treasurer, the Successful Candidate will be responsible for providing support to Council as well as administration in regards to Federal, Provincial and local legislation. The successful candidate is responsible for administering and performing the statutory duties of clerk as provided for in the Municipal Act, 2001, and other legislation.

 Responsibilities:

  • Administer request for information as designated Head under the MFIPPA
  • Returning officer for Elections as legislatively required under the Municipal Elections Act
  • Ensure compliance under the AODA
  • Administer Lottery licensing in accordance with the rules set out by the AGCO
  • Act as manager of the municipal cemetery in accordance with the FBCSA
  • Commission of Oaths under the Commissioner for Taking Affidavits Act.
  • Prepare for Council reports, agendas packages, minutes, resolutions and by-laws, and, Policies and procedures and correspondence resulting from meetings.
  • Coordinate communications with Council including delegation requests
  • Function as recording secretary on all boards of Council unless otherwise specified
  • Promote accountability and transparency as well as public engagement
  • Act as Division Registrar for the municipality under the Vital Statistics Act
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Public or Business Administration or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a municipal management capacity
  • Exemplary Communication skills in both verbal and written
  • Successful Completion of AMCTO Municipal Administration Program (additional courses considered assets: MLP, EL&HR, Municipal Clerk’s Institute, OACA’s Primer on Planning
  • CMO Designation considered an asset
  • Qualifications in Human Resources and Land-use Planning are considered an asset
Additional Details

Compensation: $84,650 to 95,774

Remuneration is based on a 35-hour work week and includes 70 hours of Time in Lieu provided for attendance at evening meeting. The Town will provide a comprehensive benefit package and will require enrollment in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS).
